Montmorillonite in Quartz, White Queen Mine, Pala, San Diego County, California

| It has been 25 to 30 years since these were found at the White Queen Mine. These are mostly floaters with no attachment of strange double terminated Pink Quartz crystals. The pink coloration is from the Montmorillonite included in the Quartz. These have become classics from San Diego County and a large 18 cm specimen was on display at the 2009 Tucson Gem and Mineral Society Show at the Tucson Convention Center. March 2009 |
