16lhphr    ((HALITE)),  $5 MINIMUM BID, Great Salt Lake, Tooele County, Utah,  10 x 8 x 6 cm, Cabinet

Sparkling and interesting faces.  Instead of hoppered the faces have multiple slightly stepped faces.  Face steps are not tall and not as high but are similar to the Muzquiz Fluorite or the older tristate Galena specimens.  This Halite was collected last year and originally had a pink color which fades in less than a year to nearly white.  These grow fairly fast and then a rain storm changing the salinity can have them dissolve back into the lake over night.  Last year I heard plans to breach the causeway which separates the south more saltly part of the lake from the north less saltly which would lower the salinity in the south.  This may end the natural Halite crystals growth after summers with a lack of rain concentrating the salt and having it crystallize in the lake in the late summer, early fall.
