80 CHALCANTHITE, Kennecot Copper Mine, Bingham Canyon, Bingham District, Utah, 3.5 x 3 x 1.5 cm, | |
Kennecot does not allow any collecting so specimens are kind of scarce. Here is a solid blue Chalcanthite typical of museum pieces in the Hutchinson Museum in Lehi, Utah. Chalcanthite is hydrated copper sulfate and is water soluble. Also it will dessicated in heat and turn to a white powder. This is an old specimen with some desication but the crystal is also solid instead of the typical rams horns found at other locations in Arizona and Utah. |
