Here is a fossil Moroccan trilobite. This is a typical Moroccan non professional prep look. Specimens looking like this can be totally plaster or a plaster trilobite attached to a rock base. Most fossils have some restoration but not the entire fossil which is known as a replica or fake. This one to me looks like the rock base was added to the trilobite. But looking at the photo with the head up, the right 2/3's is actual trilobite while the left 1/3 is totally made up or restored or faked. If it was professionally prepped and totally real it would cost $400 to $600. With more preppers and better prep tools and methods, Prices are a little less than 20 years ago but it is still a time consuming job and time to prep makes the fossil more costly. This quality is used in schools and beginning collections and is a good low cost example if you do not over pay to a Morrocan at a show swearing it is totaling real. At least this one appears to be 2/3 real trilobite attached to the real rock matrix. |
