ce7rs FLUORITE, $50 MINIMUM BID, De'An Mine, Wushan, Jiangxi Province, China, 18 x 15 x 3 cm, cabinet

Here is a large plate of green with purple edges, octahedral Fluorite from the De'an Mine. These are etched out of Quartz with HF acid. This one has a Quartz backing with a final layer of Fluorite. This one is more opaque and cannot be successfully backlit. It is also not oiled. Most specimens on the market by the Chinese are oiled to bring out the color. Many people do not like them being oiled. So if you prefer the oiled variety, just put some mineral oil on it and the luster and color will be enhanced. PLEASE NOTE: The light V shaped mark: This is actually a small crack in the Fluorite but not into the white Quartz backing. So this crack is not through the specimen. The white V color may be due to some thin Quartz residue from etching highlighting the crack. Again this piece is not oiled like most from the Chinese. Oiling would reduce the contrast. AGAIN this is not a high priced De'an specimen. It also could be trimmed into three specimen along the V making three smaller but more uniform in color pieces. I just got this along with a few higher priced pieces for retail but I may put a more expensive piece on next week.
