14bradts ((FLUORESCENT TOURMALINE)) $35 MINIMUM BID, Black Rapids Glacier, Alaska Range, Alaska, 11 x 9 x 4 cm, Cabinet | |
Here is a specimen from a glacier in Alaska. These were collected about 20 years ago by a geologist in Alaska in a remote location only accessible by helicopter. Equivalent cost of the helicopter to collect a flat of 6 specimens was $2000. So these are rare specimens never to be commercially collected for sale. These are Tourmalines with a pink core and green rind known as watermelon tourmalines. They are not gemmy but a rare occurrance for Tourmaline in that the pink cores are Fluorescent under UV light. I had three flats of these in Tucson and 2/3 sold in the range of $100 to $400 each to fluorescent collectors and dealers for resale at my wholesale show in Tucson. I only have 6 or 7 left. |
