 14btrsmis  ((JUMBO PYRITE SUN)),  $30 MINIMUM BID, Sparta, Illinois, 13.5 x 13.5 x .6 cm, Cabinet

These Pyrite Suns are found by coal miners in the slate layers above the coal seam in the coal mines in Illinois.  Unfortunately the coal mines in Illinois are currently being totally shut down.  Copper wiring and anything else worth salvaging is being removed in preparation for permanent shut down.  The mines will be left  to flood.  The source for the Suns, the miners,  will be  out of work and no longer able to collect these amazing Pyrite suns.   At Tucson this year, I was able to buy a lot of about 500 suns.  A small portion were this uncommon Jumbo size.  I sold all the suns but held back these large ones that are new to me to sell at shows this year.   Here is one that is totally round.
