Here is a matrix specimen with several terminated sherry colored Topaz crystals from Utah's famous Topaz Mountain. Direct sunlight will beach these colorless. Topaz are found in sand and washes which are colorless from lying out in the sun. Sherry colored Topaz are dug from vugs in the hard volcanic Rhyolite. They also have a basal cleavage and the shock from hitting the Rhyolite with a crack hammer will frequently pop the Topaz off the matrix. Here is a matrix specimen that made it out without popping the crystals off the matrix.
