06hlkmns ((CHALCOPYRITE, MAGNETITE)) , $15 MINIMUM BID, French Creek Mine, Chester County, Pennsylvania, 6.5 x 5 x 4.5 cm, Miniature | |
Here is a classic locality for Chalcopyrite. This specimen is odd in that it looks like a normal rounded rock. The inside of the rind is covered and lined with Magnetite crystals. The center is a combination of Calcite and Chalcopyrite hoppered crystals. The Calcite is dissolved wiht HCl to expose the Chalcopyrite crystals. The Calcite is dissolved in all specimens but the exterior does not usually resemble a non descript rock. |
