16dobcis  ((PYRITE)),   $10 MINIMUM BID, Bingham Canyon Mine, Salt Lake County, Utah,  3 x 3 x 3 cm, Miniature,

Here is a Pyrite pyritahedral crystal from Bingham Canyon Mine, Salt Lake City's famous huge open pit Copper mine.  These floater completely formed crystals were discovered at the mine in 2010.  Some have flat faces and others have hoppered or indented faces.  Average size 2 to 5 cm across.  Some workers collected them although the company policy is no collecting by the employees.  They were hard to acquire from the employees for many years.  Last month I was able to acquire some from an employee recently layed off from the mine struggling from lower quality ore and the huge major slide a couple of years ago filling in a large area of the pit hindering mining the higher grade ore. This specimen is a complete very lustrous pyritahedral crystal with the typical irregular shape and form on the faces but many faces are mostly flat faces.    There is a  concoidal area of damage on the bottom along with contact with another crystal on the bottom.
