96hhsh.nr ((PYRITE)), $50 MINIMUM BID, Four Metals Mine, Bullion Canyon, Tooele County, Utah, 7.5 x 3.5 x 3.5 cm, Cabinet

Here is specimen 30 out of 50 from a suite of Utah Pyrite specimens self collected by Solon Hammack and kept as a suite in his Collection. I purchased the suite in 1996. Pyrite from this mine was collected several times but 99+ percent of the specimens are single crystals which are floaters because when wet the matrix crumbles and completely separates from the Pyrite. A few specimens have more Hematite in the matrix which holds up better. There is a little hematite with the matrix but the matrix seems to be solid. I would not get it wet just incase. I looked at it to see if it has been repaired since a few specimens in the suite look to be repaired. There are a number of small cracks not visable with the naked eye but the specimen is solid. I do not see any repair and I think if it was in two or more pieces there would have been lots of small pieces making it impossible to put together. So the Four Metals Mine, this is an uncommon to rare matrix specimen. No collecting has been done in 30 years at this locality. It would be too hard since the collecting area would need to be mucked out before any specimen mining or collecting. beeit edlSolon uneHiddnmn doe. a,With a loopsed era dsst. iotiiteCand icollfrom SolonRombic Calcite crystals.
