5ame500in ((QUARTZ variety AMETHYST)), $20 MINIMUM BID, Anahi Mine, Bolivia, 7 x 6.5 x 6 cm, Cabinet,

Here is a large single crystal of Amethyst but from this location, which produced large decorator plates of Amethyst, in an uncommon smaller size suitable for display in most collections. At the Dallas show, I learned that this location is not bothering to produce any specimens any more. Now only Amethyst and Ametrine for the jewelry market are being mined. There is more money by the carat than by the kilo. This one is undamaged and has sharp edges. It also has natural faces. Many of the decorator pieces have damage repaired by cutting and polishing new faces and terminations which is easy to spot because of the high luster of some faces. Tip has a small interal blemish but does not affect face. NOTE Second photo too dark purple. Auctually lighter as in the first photo.
