5hhshe ((SCHEELITE, CALCITE)), $10 MINIMUM BID, Ophir Hill Mine, Tooele county, Utah, 6 x 5 x 5 cm, Miniature | |
The great Scheelite specimens with their octahedral fluorescent crystals are now scarce with this mine also closed to collecting. This specimen has excellent undamaged Calcite which also fluoresces red orange. I see only one cleaved crystal on the back. Mostly this Calcite is removed with HCl to expose the Scheelite crystals. In this case there is much area without Calcite with Scheelite crystals easier seen with a loop or UV light. If the Calcite was removed more Scheelite crystals would be exposed but this is also an unusual specimen in that the Calcite is not all chipped and rough. So its probably better kept as is. |
