WATER BEETLES, TERMITE in AMBER (COPAL), Columbia, South America, 3.5 x 2 x .5 cm, | |
Small piece of polished Copal which is the more recent form of Amber. Amber is mostly from the Baltic and Copal is from Columbia and Dominican Republic. This specimen has a termite and 5 beetles with long hind legs. These I believe are Water Boatman Beetles that can fly but spend most of their time in water swimming upsidedown using their long hind legs as oars to propel themselves through the water under the water surface to the bottom of ponds. |
