3atmdi ((FOSSIL SHARK TOOTH, Otodus Obliquus)), $10 MINIMUM BID, Phosphate Mine, Khouribga, Morocco, 5.5 x 4 x 1.5 cm, Miniature

Moroccans seam to love to take a box of pieces and make up whole fossils. With a little minor inspection this is obvious. In a box of hundreds of sharks teeth only a few are totally originally real and not put together with parts. 15 to 20 years ago I went through thousands of shark teeth to pick out the good ones in order to get a hundred. The eye teeth on the sides of the main tooth are usually glued on and not original to the tooth. This is one of those good ones I picked out. Eye teeth are original and not added. The tooth root has some cracks and the original fossil has been repaired or stabilized as seen with a loop. This is acceptable with fossils. Gluing pieces from multiple animals is not acceptable. Still unrepaired specimens are even better, but removing the fossil from the solid rock matrix more oftern than not results in some pieces that need to be reassembled. It is just not good to use pieces from another tooth. Many Moroccan trilobite specimens also should have Buyer Beware Signs on more specimens that not.
