11hhceis ((GOETHITE pseudomorph after PYRITE)), $15 MINIMUM BID, Pelican Point, Utah County, Utah, 4.5 x 3.3 x 3 cm, Miniature | |
Pelican Point is famous for its Goethite pseudos after Pyrite. These were commercial open pit quarried and sold at Tucson one year. These were singles and clusters of cubic Pyrite crystals. Over the hill on the west side of the mountain it has since be discovered that pseudomorphs also occur but their crystal shape is pyritahedrons rather than cubes. Here is a complete and undamaged crystal cluster. Coloration is light chocolate brown like melted and resolidified chocolate brown. With the optivisor I see one4 MM chip which color wise blends in and is hard to see. |
