ANHYDRITE, Grace Mine, Morgantown, Berks county Pennsylvania, 4 x 4 x 1 cm

Here is an example of slightly purplish Anhydrite. Grace Mine was operated by Bethlehem Steel as an underground iron mine producing iron pellets in the sixties. Long since closed and permanently sealed shut. Specimens were limited in the first place and no further collecting is possible. York Calcites and Wheatley Pyromorphites and French Creek Chalcopyrites are well know Pennsylvanian minerals but other locations and minerals from Pennsylvanian are not too frequently seen at shows.
