7hhjh.r   ((HALITE)),   $5 MINIMUM BID, Great Salt Lake, Box Elder County, Utah, 7.5 x 6.5 x 1.5 cm,  Cabinet,

Opaque hopper crystals of Halite from the Great Salt Lake.  Originally these were told to have come from the southern part of the lake in Tooele County but I believe the collectors were protecting the locality actually from the northern part of the lake in Box Elder County.  This was a one time find in 2006.   I believe these were dipped in a solution to seal humidity out.   I still would be careful in high humidity climates and maybe seal in a zip lock plastic bag.   It has lasted 15 years so far.   There are some small black specks which I believe is dirt.  It did not blow off and is exaggerated by the photography.  They are invisable to the eye unless a loop is used.   Halite from the Great Salt Lake is normally white and massive.  Nice crystals are uncommon.  Weather was evidently just right in 2007 to produce some great specimens.   Even a few with large hopper crystals on larger brush sticks along with the Gypsum stalactitic like growths on the twigs from brush.  Again a one time find in the same year.   Nothing like it since.       I still have a few flats of the Halite and mostly just a few of the largest of the Gypsum left from most of the find at the time.
