19jkjl.rs ((LUDWIGITE)),  $150 MINIMUM BID, Spring Mountain Mining District, Lemhi Co., Idaho, 12 x 9 x 8 cm, Cabinet

Ludwigite crystals to 8.5 cm and small black triangular Spinel crystals. Most of the Spinels are not complete except to on and a remnant of Calcite shown on the close up. Excellent specimen of large Ludwigite crystals. They were inside Calcite which has been etched and dissolved exposing the Ludwigite crystals. There are several of photos on Mindat.org from this locality but none as spectacular as this one. The specimen is a bit brittle and small pieces or crumbs come off with handling and or shipping. So handle with care and try to pick up by the bottom or the one solid side and not by the crystals which are not very strong. Still a superb example and huge crystals for the species. Most if not all other Ludwigite species from other localities are small crystal sprays frozen in matrix or needle like crystal inclusions in Peridot from Pakistan
