Rose Rocks are Barite clusters that have crystallized in sand with sand inclusions. Ancient sand turned to Sandstone with the Barite clusters within the sandstone. Wind, water erosion of the softer sandstone trapping the Barite clusters leaves the harder Barite weathered free from sandstone tomb. These are reddish brown in color from the Iron in the sand and have been named Rose Rock from their rose like look. These are also the State Rock of Oklahoma. ex Dana Wilson MD collection 779. |
