4hhshn ((fluorescent CALCITE)), $10 MINIMUM BID, Ophir Hill Mine, Tooele County, Utah, 5 x 4 x 4 cm, Miniature | |
Undamaged stacked flattened rhombs of Calcite. Fine Calcite specimens from Ophir are rare. Most are damaged and are not treated that well in the collecting process. This is because collectors are looking for the Scheelite crystals exposed when the Calcite is removed with HCl. So fining a good undamaged Calcite is a rarity. These Calcites also has a red orange SW fluorescent color. Also now the Ophir Hill Mine, along with many other Utah locations has been closed and sealed shut by the State of Utah. |
