5hhjhis ((40 pcs TOPAZ)), $10 MINIMUM BID, Thomas Range, Juab County, Utah, 5 to 15 mm, Thumbnails

Here are 40 small sherry colored terminated crystals of Utah Topaz. Direct sunlight over a period of several days to a week with bleach the color and the crystals will turn colorless. Unless you are a good self collector, these crystals are more than you would find in a full day of pounding the hard Rhyolite matrix. The few times I have gone, I have not done this well. On the other side if you are a proficient self collector or really lucky you could find some crystals much bigger. Crystal clusters to about 4 inches in length have been found with commercial mining. They have reportedly sold for $10000 and more. So even with commerical blasting and a running trackhoe these superb specimens are rarely found or they would not command such prices. Crystals picked up off the surface are colorless from the sunlight destroying the sherry color. During my collecting, I was happy any time I found colored crystals. But the best collectors that have gone many many times fine lots of these average to small crystals.
