7idceinss ((COPPER on and included in CALCITE)), Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences #7333, $150 MINIMUM BID, Michigan, 14 x 12 x 11 cm, Large Cabinet, | |
Here is a specimen from the lot of Phila Academy specimen I bought from Cellectors Edge. This one has no Academy label. It does have an early Philadelphia Academy number on the specimen of 7333. It is undamaged although the on side of the termination looks to have some cleavage but the surfaces have small specks of Malachite on the surface as do the lustrous other crystal faces. All the green is actually Copper on the outer faces of half the huge Calcite crystal. The Calcite with the green Copper on the outside also has Copper colored Copper inclusions in the Calcite. It is probably from the Quincy Mine, Houghton County, Michigan which is famous for these Copper included Calcite specimens. It is also probably over 100 years old with this early collection number. ex Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences #7333 without a label. |
