9fdce.is ((CASSITERITE)),  Academy of Natual Sciences of Philadelphia, $10 MINIMUM BID, Llallagua, Potosi Department, Bolivia,  10 x 6 x 5 cm, Cabinet, Phila. Academy specimen with label

Academy #19713 which is mostly Cassiterite with some minor Pyrite. Specimen had a whitish coating. Water gunning cleaned or dissolved the coating. When I thoughly dryed with a hair dryer, some of the white shows up. I'm not sure what is causing this. It may be a residue from some previous cleaning material that has soaked into the specimen or not properly neutralized. I have seen marcasite and pyrrhotite specimens with Pyrite disease but this is mostly Cassiterite and does not seem to be the same. There is before and after photos. About 25 to 30 percent of the white coating after thoroughly drying shows up. Maybe a rare species or maybe an acid bath and then neutralizing with baking soda should be done
