tgts  PYRITE SUN on SLATE MATRIX, $50 Minimum Bid, Sparta, Illinois, 21 x 16 x 3.5 cm, Large Cabinet

Here is a specimen with a showy Pyrite Sun on matrix. The Sun is an interesting shape and 6.5 cm in length. This specimen is 5 to 10 years old. The more recent specimens use the slate from the area and route an opening for the Pyrite sun. In these the Pyrite Suns are actually positioned. This specimen was from the previous era when they removed the Pyrite sun for cleaning and then put it back into the exact spot and slate that it came out of. These Pyrite "suns" occur in slate seams in a coal deposite in Illinois. The "suns" are dirty and black when found and must be cleaned.
