21hhdw.is    ((CALCITE)), Fluorescent  $50  MINIMUM BID, Ophir Hill Mine, Ophir Distict, Tooele County, Utah,  12 x 9 x 2.5 cm,  Cabinet

This Calcite specimen has Scheelite crystals under the Calcite hidden unless the Calcite is dissolved with HCl. The crystals are in excellent shape and uncommon in this condition. Most if not all Calcite specimens are collected to be etched and for the Scheelite. So the undamaged Calcite is not undamaged by the time it comes out of the mine. Scheelite and Calcite specimens no longer are able to be accessed in the mine and only available in collections, especieally local older collections. This specimen was never cleaned. I did not clean it since the details show up better with the dirt. These Calcite specimens are also Fluorescent red orange under UVSW. Usually a rim of white Scheelite can be seen along the edge when exposing to UVSW since Sheelite has a bright white color under UV. Typically these are worth more and more desirable for the Scheelite but it a shame to dissolve the Calcite away when undamaged but thats always an option. ex Dana Wilson MD collection.
