13bttg.tis ((COBALTOAN CALCITE)), $75 MINIMUM BID, Bou Azzer, Quarzazate Province, Atlas Mountains, Morocco, 9 x 7 x 3.5 cm,  Cabinet

Here is a pretty bubblegum pink Calcite. It has a crack around the valley at the perimeter of the upper right mid mound of pink Calcite as seen about a third up from the specimen bottom. The crack is not into the matrix and was not present when I purchased the specimen from Top Gem in 2013 for between $300 and $400. I have not stabilized the cracking. It is not loose. Maybe over the last 7 years, the pyrite/marcasite is the cause of the cracking. Perhaps the specimen should be trimmed into smaller pieces and the quartz pyrite core removed from the calcite cap. I have not heard or seen this happened to any other pink Calcite specimens. So the min bid is really low so that the winning bidder can decide how to proceed. If not I may trim into several smaller specimens without the cracking. Great color!
